Hey everyone! I hope everyone’s keeping warm out there—it’s definitely fall in Pittsburgh! Monday is Halloween, and we’ll be celebrating it with a movie night and knitting/crocheting. Bring a treat to share if you want to, and feel free to dress up (I know I am!). We’re also planning another fun event like the Arm Knitting (poll is on the Facebook group page.) We have three possibilities to choose from.
The first is a cabled headband, and this is both knitting and crocheting. You should know how to knit and purl for this project. We’ll teach you how to make a headband that looks something like this:
The second option is boot cuffs. You can make boot cuffs that are flat and then sew them up, but this option is for teaching you how to knit in the round (no seams!) You should know how to knit and purl already in order to do this project. (We *can* teach purling there, but then you may not finish your project in the time we have allotted). They will look something like this:
The third option is a double knit headband or coaster. This technique makes a thick, fully reversible fabric! You’re knitting with two different strands of yarn, but you only need to know how to knit for this project. It will look something like this:
Now let's turn to our member spotlight. We really do want to hear about all of you, so please submit a short paragraph about you and the project you're working on (with a picture) to email@example.com. This week, we are featuring Ashley Divens!
Hi, I’m Ashley Divens (on the right in the picture).
I am a freshman, majoring in Environmental Science. I have only been knitting for about a month, after my friend Josie convinced me to join Pitt Knits with her. I am currently working on a scarf for me, and a hat that’s a service project. Purple and light blue are my favorite colors to use. Learning how to arm knit at the club event was fun, and I’m excited to learn more complicated knitting and trying out new things!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Hugs and stitches,
Ashlee DiDomenico - Pitt Knits Social Media Chair
