About Pitt Knits
We are a service oriented student organization at the University of Pittsburgh that got its start as an organization in the fall of the 2018-2019 academic year! We started with the collective idea that we would knit and crochet our hearts out and give back to our community by donating hats, blankets, scarves, etc. to charitable organizations in the Pittsburgh area. Check out our donations page to see what we have accomplished thus far. Since our start we have made so many wonderful relationships with the fiber arts community and the volunteering community on and around campus! We welcome all knitters and crocheters of all skill levels to join this closely knit organization and to share their passion with fellow students!
Pitt Knits Officers 2018-2019
President - Peri Walker
"My name is Peri and I am a junior English literature and theatre arts major with minors in classics, economics, and poetry writing. I’ve been knitting for over ten years and crocheting for about one. I’ve been a member of Pitt Knits since my freshman year, and would love to finish out my college experience by serving as the President next year. This year, I was the Business Manager of Pitt Knits, so I have experience with the way the club functions and with keeping club materials organized. I really enjoy brainstorming ideas for fun events and collaborations with other clubs, and I would be very excited to continue working with a club that benefits both its members and the greater community."
Vice President - Ashley Divins
"I am a junior, majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. After graduating, I would love to do research, preferably at the Hillman Cancer Center. After gaining experience, I want to receive a PhD and become a lecturer. I've only been knitting and crocheting for two years, but my abilities have come a long way during that time! Other than knitting and crocheting, I love to watch Netflix, read, take naps, and play with my cats and my 2- year- old nephew!"
Business Manager - Brianne Balmer
"Hi, my name is Brianne and I am a junior at Pitt. I’m a natural sciences major and I plan to attend physician assistant school after undergrad. I’m from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and I have been crocheting for around 13 years and I occasionally knit. My favorite shows to watch while crocheting are Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Doctor, and New Girl. Over the summer I work as a Personal Care Aide through a nursing agency and I volunteer at UPMC during the school year. "
Events Coordinator - Ceara McAtee
“Hi! I am a junior pursuing a major in biology and minors in chemistry and Irish. Along with my classes, I do research in one of the biology labs here at Pitt. After I graduate, I plan on returning to my hometown of State College to attend graduate school at Penn State. I have been knitting and crocheting for about a year, and have recently picked up spinning yarn, lucetting, and felting. Outside of Pitt Knits and school, I enjoy reading, traveling and listening to music.“
Social Media Coordinator - Kayla Loukas
"Hey, my name is Kayla and I am a senior studying history and political science, with a minor in economics. I have been a part of Pitt Knits for three semesters now and I have been knitting for about 13 years and crocheting for almost 2. After graduation, I plan on pursuing a graduate program in policy writing. In my free time I spend my time watching sports, grilling, and working at my internship in local level politics."
